From Julie

Fantastic idea Jeremy. Here is my post:

I first met Sanjay on 4th of July 1988 at a swim party at David DeAlmeida’s house. My cousin Lisa introduced us - I was a mere 13 years old. The next year, I started Hayward High. My cousin Lisa told Sanjay to “look for the girl who looks like Debbie Gibson and watch her back.” One day early freshmen year, Sanjay approached me. I was wearing a black hat and he said “ you look like Debbie Gibson – are you Lisa’s cousin? I’m supposed to watch out for you.” And watch out for me he did. He picked me up for school every morning for two years. I was never ready when he got there and he always knew I’d open the door, run out, hold up one finger as if to say just one more minute! It was never one more minute but he always waited patiently. Sanjay was the kind of friend who would do anything for you no matter how much you messed up. And I messed up a lot. He knew how to listen to me as a real friend – he would tell me when I was being a selfish brat, praise me when I managed to get my head out of my ass, encourage me when I needed it, and yell at me if I needed it. He held my hair when I got drunk and threw up and he held me whenever I got my heart broken. Sanjay Singh was a man who touched many lives. He will be missed by me in a way I cannot put into words and he will be loved by me always.
